Before You Judge..

Here comes these market women again
with their dirty wrappers and dripping baskets..
just before you pronounce them "razz",
remember all the sumptuous stews and sauces,
those vegetables and steaming pottage you love -
She's the grocery alchemist behind them all.

"All these Okada riders don come again,
good thing Fashola banned their skully heads,
an unruly bunch of daredevil desperadoes"
Pause...
remember that deadline you almost missed?
Remember that rugged biker who saved the day?
If he had not been there...
phantom what woe would've betid you.
"But they endanger lives; theirs and ours" I know.
Nonetheless in their own defiant brisk ways,
they've saved a million lives in a million ways.

"Na all these Aboki be mumu..."
Abuse them, go ahead, have fun,
poke at their naivety and anti-civility;
same naivety that fatted your beefs
and invented your darling suya and kilichi,
this anti-civility raised that "Meruwa"
who waters you on those helpless days.
Remember that and be grateful.

To forget and to judge; both is easy as E
but before you condemn any as a societal dreg,
before you label any a communal misfit,
take a minute and remember -
"They all are a part of Us,
they all have a part in Us."
